Reveal Radiant Skin and banish breakouts with this all natural DIY scrub and mask

I’m a DIY girl at heart and I LOVE making my own products! It’s an easy way to avoid toxic chemicals and save money. Plus, it’s FUN! Now that we’re in the swing of winter, my skin needed some extra love. The dry air tends to make my skin look dull and feel tight, so I knew I needed to create something that would exfoliate, nourish, and moisturize my skin. I have acne prone skin, so I wanted to address that too. I chose each ingredient to address these needs and I couldn’t be happier with the results. This Face and body scrub/face mask has revealed a radiant and clear complexion for me, which is why I just LOVE this simple creation so much I had to share it with you! I have used this for about a month a few times a week. Now, I’m not one to wear makeup everyday. Usually when I’m out running errands and catch a glimpse of my face in the mirror sans make up, lets just say I’m not thrilled, but yesterday I caught a glimpse of myself in the rearview mirror on a bright sunny day and I couldn’t believe how nice my skin looked.

How to make your own all natural Honey Lemon Sugar Scrub

Whenever I make my own products, I like to keep it simple, using as few ingredients as possible. Each ingredient has to be high quality and serve a purpose. For this recipe I was thrilled because I already had everything in my kitchen (yes, I keep a bottle of lemon essential oil in my kitchen and one in my bathroom too!)

Make your own sugar scrub with Lemon Essential Oil from Young Living

If the dry winter air has been wreaking havoc on your skin or you would like a natural way to combat breakouts, you have to give this a try!

Here is a list of what you’ll need to make this Lemon Honey Sugar Scrub and face mask.

Organic Cane Sugar – Sugar is a natural exfoliator, as well as a natural source of glycolic acid, which serves to even out skin tone, cleanse pores, and improves overall appearance by sloughing off dead skin cells.

Organic or Non-GMO, Cold Processed Extra Virgin Olive Oil –  (Did you know that the purest and best quality olives oil comes from California?) – Olive oil heals acne scarring, and is high in vitamin E which is soothing, moisturizing, and healing to the skin, as well as being high in antioxidants which prevents premature aging of the skin.

Raw Organic Honey – (I recommend using raw honey because it contains natural antibacterial properties, enzymes, and probiotics that are good for the skin.) – The antibacterial properties benefit acne prone skin by reducing breakouts. Honey is a natural humectant so it locks water into the skin keeping the complexion hydrated. Also, a natural source of antioxidants which aids the skin from premature aging.

One Organic Lemon – Lemon juice is incredibly beneficial to the skin. It helps to diminish scars and age spots, heal acne, exfoliate, and brighten your complexion.

Young Living Lemon Essential Oil – Is cold pressed from the lemon rind, it has a strong, purifying citrus scent which is revitalizing and uplifting. It does a good job of covering up the olive oil smell, which I’m not a big fan of. Don’t tell my italian relatives I said that ;). I chose this oil for more than its fragrance though. Young Living’s Lemon essential oil contains 68% d-limonene, a powerful antioxidant. Great for reducing wrinkles, minimizing sun and age spots, as well as combating acne. By combining this essential oil with the lemon juice you’re getting the benefits of the entire lemon.

An Airtight Glass Container

I bought mine at the container store, here is a link to the one I used.

Instructions:

Add a 1/2 cup of Sugar to a glass bowl, pour in 1/4 cup olive oil, and mix with a fork. You can use more or less olive oil depending on the consistency you want. Add in a heaping TBSP of honey, half the juice of one lemon and mix well, again you can adjust how much honey and lemon juice you use, last add in 10 drops of lemon essential oil and mix. Then transfer to your airtight glass container! Voila, get ready for gorgeous luxurious feeling skin!!!

Mix up your own sugar scub using Young Living Lemon Essential Oil

Storage and Use

Store in an airtight glass jar and keep out of direct sunlight. I keep mine in my bathroom cabinet and I use a clean spoon to scoop out.

For the Face:

Add a scoop to your palm and apply in a circular motion careful not to use too much pressure, let the scrub do the work. I have skin that is prone to break out so I like to leave it on for 5-10 minutes for a deep pore cleaning. Then I just wash off with warm water and pat dry. I would recommend using this at night and no more than three times a week.

For the Body:

Just rub a small amount all over in circular motions, great for rough spots like your feet, elbows, knees, and cuticles. You can also use this as a base for shaving to achieve the smoothest shave ever! Rinse with warm water and bask in your glowing silky soft skin!

We love Ginger essential oil as a substitute for powdered ginger in recipes. As a general rule, you can use 1 drop for every teaspoon of powdered or grated ginger. Check out this fun, easy recipe for gingerbread people that the kids will love decorating with icing, candies, and sprinkles:

Gingerbread People

3 cups flour of your choice (may substitute Gary’s True Grit Einkorn Pancake and Waffle Mix)

1 tsp. baking soda

¼ tsp. fine sea salt

2 drops Ginger essential oil

1 drop Cinnamon Bark essential oil

¾ cup butter or coconut oil

¾ cup firmly packed brown or coconut sugar

½ cup molasses

1 egg or vegan egg substitute

1 tsp. vanilla extract

In a medium bowl, whisk together dry ingredients; set aside.

In a larger bowl, beat together butter or coconut oil and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in remaining wet ingredients. Gradually add flour mixture just until dough forms; do not over mix. Press dough into a flat disk, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight or at least for 4 hours.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll dough to ¼ inch thick on a clean and lightly floured countertop. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are just beginning to brown. Cool completely, then decorate as desired!

While you and your family are making essential oil-infused gingerbread people, and through the whole season, diffuse Christmas Spirit essential oil blend. It combines everyone’s favorite scents of the season—Cinnamon Bark, Orange, and Spruce—for an irresistibly festive environment. You can even try dropping it onto unscented potpourri and packaging it in bags with colorful ribbons for a beautiful, memorable neighbor gift. They’ll love that it’s both thoughtful and guilt-free!

Remember this promotion is valid for any qualifying PV order, whether it’s a retail, wholesale or essential rewards order.

What does PV mean?

In case you were wondering what PV stands for? It just means personal volume (the amount of points you are ordering). Every item will list the PV next to the price. Usually PV equals the dollar amount of an item, but there are a few exceptions. For example, The Premium Starter Kit costs $150, but has a PV value of 100 points. So if you’re ordering the Premium Starter Kit and want to add a few more items to your order, this is an excellent way to qualify for FREE products!!!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions 🙂

Customized Foaming Hand Soap with Essential Oils

Super Simple DIY hand soap using essential oils. Visit www.EssentialOilsObsessed.com for more natural DIY recipes or to order oils.

Click image to save to Pinterest!

I love this recipe! It’s non-toxic, gentle on my hands, and smells great. Like those fancy soaps, but without the fancy price. And it’s so simple to make, you just need 4 things.

1. Distilled Water

2. Pure Castile soap, I like Dr Bronner’s Organic, Unscented Baby Mild. You can find it at Whole Foods or online at Drugstore.com. It’s a little pricey, around $17.00 for a quart, but it’s meant to be diluted and lasts a really long time. The quart size I buy can make 32 bottles of this recipe, that comes to fifty-three cents per bottle. It comes in smaller sizes too, that cost around $4.00, in case you want to start slow 🙂

3. Essential Oil of your choice. I use lemon for my kitchen and it smells divine! I chose lemon for it’s uplifting aroma. But, you can customize this recipe with any oil. I think any of the citrus oils are great; orange, grapefruit, citrus fresh, lemon myrtle. I also like lavender or thieves for the bathroom.

4. A Foaming Dispenser, I bought mine at the Container Store, you can also reuse a foaming dispenser bottle you already have.

My easy DIY foaming hand soap ingredients. Visit www.EssentialOilsObsessed.com for more all natural DIY recipes or to order oils.

So here’s what you do.

1. Add 2 TBS. of Castile Soap to your foaming soap dispenser.

2. Add 5- 10 drops, Essential Oil of your choice. Then swish it all around in the bottle.

3. Fill your foaming dispenser bottle 3/4 of the way with distilled water.

That’s it you’re done! SO EASY.

P.S., In case you were wondering  why  I use Dr Bronner’s. First of all, it works really well and the ingredients in it are all legit… stuff you can recognize and pronounce 🙂

Ingredients in Dr Bronner’s Unscented Baby Mild Pure-Castile Soap:

Water, Organic Coconut Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Fair Deal Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol (Vitamin E).

Make your own Non-Toxic Hand Sanitizer

We all know that washing our hands with good old fashion soap and water is the best way to keep germs and sickness away. But, when I’m on the go, in and out of stores, running errands, or out and about with my little one who HAS to touch everything; and then stick her hands right in her mouth we need hand sanitizer!

diy Hand Purifier using thieves essential oil

Click image to save to Pinterest.

Hand sanitizers are everywhere these days! But, have you ever considered what’s really in your hand sanitizer? Chances are they contain alcohol, triclosan, or both! The alcohol in most traditional hand sanitizers simply dry my hands out too much. And triclosan, oh boy! No, thank you. I was shocked when I first learned about the possible side effects of triclosan. Especially, since it’s in so many personal care products. If you haven’t heard of triclosan yet, here’s an interesting read. This revelation was actually what drove me to finding an alternative to the traditional hand sanitizer I had been using.

Here’s the good news!

Making your own hand sanitizer is easy when you have Thieves essential oil and a few other common household ingredients. Thieves essential oil contains Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary. This blend is basically germs worst nightmare!

Now for the Recipe! What you’ll need.

  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Vitamin E Oil
  • Distilled Water
  • Thieves Essential Oil
  • Peppermint Essential Oil  *optional
  • Mini funnel *optional
  • Dispenser bottles (you can reuse ones you already have)

How to make your own hand sanitizer using essential oils.

How to make your own Non-Toxic Hand Sanitizer!

The easiest way to do this is to add your ingredients directly to the dispenser you plan on using. I have a mini bottle attached to my purse that I bought from Target. You can reuse an old bottle or make a spray if you’d like, just use more water.

Step 1. Fill your bottle a little more than halfway with Aloe Vera Gel.

Step 2. Use a pin or scissors to poke a hole in one Vitamin E gel cap and add to bottle. Or add 1/4 tsp Vitamin E oil.

Step 3. Add 10-15 drops of Thieves and a few drops of Peppermint essential oil.

Step 4. Place lid on and shake well.

Step 5. Fill the rest of your bottle with water and shake to mix everything together.

Voila… that’s it, you’re done!

See how easy it is to avoid traditional toxic products when you have essential oils! I hope you enjoy making and using this as much as I do 🙂
